Robinson, Speyer Join Personnel Staff

Posted May 15, 2014

After 12 seasons with the Patriots, Jon Robinson has joined the Buccaneers to serve as the team's director of player personnel, while former Philadelphia scout Andy Speyer comes aboard as a national scout

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Wednesday the hiring of Jon Robinson as the team’s director of player personnel.

Robinson comes to the Buccaneers after 12 seasons with the New England Patriots (2002-13), including two stints (2001-02, '09-11) in which he worked with the Buccaneers' new general manager, Jason Licht. Most recently, Robinson worked as the Patriots' director of college scouting (2009-13) after having served as the team's assistant director of college scouting in 2008. While with the Patriots, Robinson contributed to the drafting of several key players, including wide receiver Julian Edelman (seventh round, 2009), defensive back Devin McCourty (first round, 2010), tight end Rob Gronkowski (second round, 2010), tackle Nate Solder (first round, 2011) and defensive end Chandler Jones (first round 2012).

Prior to the 2008 season, Robinson spent two years as a regional scout (2006-07) and four years as an area scout (2002-05) for the Patriots. During his time in New England, Robinson was a part of an organization that won 10 division titles, four conference titles and two Super Bowls.

A native of Union City, Tennessee, Robinson signed with the U.S. Air Force Academy out of high school before transferring to Southeast Missouri State, where he played for three seasons and earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics education. Following his playing career, he coached at his alma mater in 1998 before moving on to coach at Nicholls State for three seasons (1999-2001), where he worked until joining New England.

Jon and his wife, Jaimie, were married in 2002 and have two daughters, Taylor Brooke and Bailey Rae.

Speyer joins Tampa Bay after 12 seasons working with the Philadelphia Eagles’ player personnel department and 11 as a college scout, covering the Southwest, Midwest and Northeast regions at various points during that time. During his time in Philadelphia, Speyer was a member of an organization that won six division titles and one conference title. He was also a training camp intern with the Eagles in 2001, when they won their division and advanced to the conference championship.

A native of Spring, Texas, Speyer played collegiately at Ricks College (Rexburg, Idaho), before transferring to the University of Utah and earning his undergraduate degree in business management. He also earned a MBA and a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University.

Speyer and his wife, Lynette, have two sons, Braden and Kahler, and a daughter, Hailey.
